Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle form the upper and lower eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient's field of vision. The procedure can be performed in the office with local anesthesia in as little as 45 minutes. Blepharoplasty may also be combined with a facelift or BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet or dark circles under the eyes.
In time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jaw line slackens, and folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Facelifts counteract these problems by removing fat and tightening skin and muscles, giving your face a fresher, youthful look. Incisions are made in inconspicuous places such as behind the hairline and in natural folds of the face and ears. Scars fade to near invisibility in time. After surgery, some patients appear 10-15 years younger.
Browlifts can revitalize drooping or lined foreheads, helping you to look less angry, sad or tired. Using traditional methods, the muscles above the eyes are altered to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. The procedure is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty and facelifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face.
In a traditional browlift the surgeon makes a coronal (headphone-shaped) incision behind the hairline stretching between the ears and across the top of the forehead.
One of the most common plastic surgery procedures, rhinoplasty is performed to reshape, reduce or augment a person's nose, remove a hump, narrow nostril width, change the angle between the nose and the mouth, or to correct injury, birth defects or other problems that affect breathing. Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure performed under either local or general anesthesia in one to two hours.
Ear surgery is typically performed to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. Surgery may be helpful for "lop ear," "cupped ear" and "shell ear," large or stretched earlobes and lobes with large creases and wrinkles. Surgeons are also able to construct new ears for patients who are missing them due to injury or other causes. The operation can be performed on children as young as four years of age as the ears are then fully grown, in order to minimize teasing in school. The procedure lasts from two to three hours and may be performed in a hospital, office-based facility or an outpatient surgery center under general or local anesthesia.
Lipostructure involves the removal and relocation of the patient's own body fat to plump up an area that has lost volume due to aging, injury, surgery or other causes.
One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction sculpts the body by removing undesireable fat rom areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms that have not responded to diet and exercise. Local anesthesia or general anesthesia may be used and the procdure can last anywhere from one to five hours depending on the amount of fat being removed.
There are several different methods surgeons use when performing liposuction, including tumescent liposuction, the super-wet technique and ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL). In all types a tiny incision is made in as inconspicuous a place as possible; a cannula (small tube) then breaks up the fat layer and suctions it out.
Abdominoplasty helps to flatten and shape the abdomen and waist by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles. The best candidates have pockets of fat or loose skin that have not responded well to diet and exercise. The procedure can also be useful for women with stretched skin and muscle from pregnancy.
The procedure takes approximately tow to five hours and can be performed with general anesthesia or loca anesthesia with a sedative. Recovery time ranges from two weeks to a few months. With a balanced diet and regular exercise, results are long-lasting. Abdominoplasty will likely leave a permanent scar stretching between the hips, although it should be low enough for even a bikini to conceal.
Breast augmentation is the most frequently performed cosmetic surgery procedure in the U.S. It can give women with small or unevenly-sized breasts a fuller, firmer, better-proportioned look through the placement of implants in the breast. Women may elect to undergo breast augmentation for many different medical and aesthetic motivations, including balancing breast size and compensating for reduced breast mass after pregnancy or surgery. The procedure may be combined with others such as a breast lift for more satisfying results.
Implants are silicone shells filled with saline (salt water) and are placed behind each breast, underneath either breast tissue or in the chest wall muscle. The procedure lasts one to two hours and is typically performed with general anesthesia. After surgery the patient's bust size may be increased by one or more cup sizes.
Large breasts can cause pain, improper posture, rashes, breathing problems, sekeltal deformities and low self-esteem. Breast reduction surgery is usually done to provide relief from these symptoms. Performed under general anesthesia, the two to four hour procedure removes fat and glandular tissue and tightens skin to produce smaller, lighter breasts that are in a a healthier proportion to the rest of the body. Breast reduction surgery is not recommended for women who intend to breast-feed, since many of the milk ducts leading to the nipples are removed.
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is performed to return youthful shape and lift to breasts that have sagged as a result of weight loss, pregnancy, loss of the skin's natural elasticity or simply the effects of aging and gravity. The procedure can also reduce areolar size (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), and it can be combined with breast augmentation for added volume and firmness. It is usually done under general anestesia in one to three hours.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used to reduce or eliminate the appearance of facial wrinkles. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead, and mouth to smooth crow's feet, frown and worry lines and lines on the neck. Made from a purified protein, BOTOX injections block nerver impulses, weakening muscles to relax wrinkles and give the face a rejuvenated look. BOTOX may also be useful for migraine headaches, excessive sweating and eye and neck muscle spasms.
Restylane® is designed to smooth wrinkles, sculpt lips and shape facial contours. It is a clear, synthetic gel made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found throughout the body. It carries little risk of allergic reaction. The most common areas for treatment are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows) and the nasolabial folds (from the root fo the nose to the angle of your mouth). With its unique ability to bind with water, Restylane remains in your skin for many months.
