PSEF Visiting Professor Committee Chair Dr. Yousif says Dr. Jelks’ area and depth of expertise should translate into a coveted Visiting Professor.  “Dr. Jelks has a world of both knowledge and experience that, in combination with his teaching and lecturing abilities, is a wonderful gift that allows us both younger and older plastic surgeons to learn from that experience.  He has significant experience in eyelid surgery, which is an area that is difficult – it is a real challenge to plastic surgeons.  If we can learn from his experience, I think that would be a benefit to all of us.”  “It was a real honor for us that he accepted the Visiting Professor position for this year.”

“I plan to present advanced didactic lectures incorporating surgical anatomy with logical planning of reconstructive and aesthetic procedures of the eyelids, orbit and periorbital areas.  The lectures often will be accompanied by videotapes of specialized procedures that require precise understanding of the nuances of the anatomy,” Dr. Jelks says.

“A procedure must have a well-planned agenda, a logically directed protocol and fine-tuned techniques to obtain results that are acceptable.  Making a great tactician is the most rewarding aspect of teaching.  From this combination we are able to create new concepts and advancement in surgery,” Dr. Jelks says.

“I would like to present the essentials of safe, logical and expertly executed surgery of the periorbital area to the plastic surgery society.  More than 20 years of experience in the field of oculoplastic surgery has provided me the opportunity to distill and filter the important aspects of some surgical procedures into logical algorithms”
